More information about KAJO products
Congratulations on making a great product choice!
And welcome to learn more about the environmental impact of KAJO products. It’s fantastic that you’re interested in making responsible choices. Sustainability is at the core of KAJO product design and manufacturing. We aim to offer our customers products that are high-quality, long-lasting, and responsibly made.
Product Design and Materials
- We focus on durability and quality in KAJO products.
- Our products are designed to last, minimizing environmental impacts throughout their lifecycle.
- KAJO products make extensive use of recycled materials. Our steel thermos bottles are made from recycled steel, KAJO Tritan bottles from recycled Tritan plastic, and many KAJO backpacks from RPET material.
Responsible Manufacturing
- KAJO products are manufactured in audited factories (BSCI, SEDEX/SMETA), ensuring good working conditions and ethical practices.
- Our manufacturers are committed to comprehensive supplier codes of conduct, including requirements for labor conditions, environmental protection, and responsible use of energy and materials.
Product Transportation
- We primarily ship products to our warehouse (in Finland) by sea freight, which is a significantly more environmentally friendly option than air freight.
- In Finland, deliveries are mostly handled by Posti.
Examples of KAJO Product Carbon Footprints
- We aim to make our products as responsible and transparent as possible. The following examples show the carbon dioxide emissions (CO₂e per product) generated from the production and transportation of various KAJO products. We reduce impacts through design, materials, and responsible manufacturing practices, and offset calculated emissions through Gold Standard-certified projects.
- Note: Carbon footprint calculations cover materials and transportation to Finland. Manufacturing, use phase, and end-of-life of the products are not included.
| Priduct | Carbon footprint (kg CO₂e) |
| KAJO Bright -backpack | 3,50 |
| KAJO Base Trail – hiking backpack | 6,22 |
| KAJO Vintage 600 – steel thermos bottle | 1,19 |
| KAJO Tritan -bottle | 0,08 |
| KAJO Bright 21′ reflective umbrella | 1,34 |

Carbon Footprint Calculation and Offsetting
- The carbon footprint of KAJO products has been calculated by Nordic Impact Oy and covers raw materials and transportation to Finland.
- Calculated emissions are offset through Gold Standard-certified projects that reduce or capture an equivalent amount of CO₂ as generated during product manufacturing.
- We only use certified, third-party verified carbon credits for offsets that are genuine, permanent, and additional.
Specific Offset Projects
Here are two Gold Standard-certified projects we have used for carbon offsetting in recent years:
1. Solar Energy in India
- Project: 400 MW solar power plant in Rajasthan
- Benefits: Reduces fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions, creates local jobs, provides training, and improves infrastructure.
- Total project emission reductions: 694,471 tCO₂e/year
- Standard: Gold Standard VER (GS ID 7071)
- Environmental benefits: Mitigates climate change through renewable energy use and reduces dependence on fossil fuels. Street lighting also improves local safety.
- Social benefits: Provides training (first aid, nutritious food) for local residents, creates jobs, improves living standards, and enhances local infrastructure.
- UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) addressed:
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 13: Climate Action

Offset project for 2024 and 2025:
Gold Standard ID 7071 – Solar Energy Project, India
2. Reforestation Project in Sodo, Ethiopia
- Project: Reforestation in the Sodo region, Ethiopia
- Desription: Local communities implement the project in collaboration with the NGO World Vision. The goal is to protect severely degraded forests and plant new trees to support long-term ecosystem restoration. Seven nearby communities are directly responsible for implementation and have already planted over 76,000 trees.
- Carbon sequestration: Approximately 863,000 tCO₂e over 30 years
- Standard: Gold Standard VER (GS ID 3007)
- Project owners: World Vision Ethiopia & World Vision Australia
- Environmental benefits: Protects biodiversity, mitigates climate change, stores carbon, restores natural systems (e.g., streams), controls erosion, and protects water resources.
- Social benefits: Local development projects and training, creation and improvement of livelihoods, long-term and fair employment for local residents. The project aims to create 80 permanent jobs by 2030 and employs over 1,500 seasonal workers.
- UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) addressed:
- SDG 1: No Poverty
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 13: Climate Action
- SDG 15: Life on Land
Summary
KAJO products combine quality, durability, and responsibility in design and manufacturing. We want our products not only to delight you in everyday life but also to take responsibility for people and the environment globally. By reducing and offsetting the environmental impacts of our products, we support climate action and local communities while advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
